DonsDeals Blog: So... I would like to build my self a Custom Fedora Distro of my Own.

So, you wanna build your own Linux Distro... I've been wanting to to this since I first discovered Blag Linux, over 6 years ago. Since then I have only used Linux as my Daily Use OS. My favorites are Fedora and Debian. I've tried out more than 50 other Distros and now I've lost count. The one thing, that I don't like. Is having to start from Scratch, with a New OS or New Version (Fedora 5-15, Debian etc). Each Distro has it's own preferred Package - Application - Software Manager. I Prefer Synaptic, but it uses Apt and it's for Debian. The two main reasons I like Synaptic are. You can search for a phrase or one word in it and get very close to what you are looking for. But, my favorite Distro is Fedora and it uses Yum. And it's default Package manager is the gpk-application. Which works fine. But when you search for an App with more than one word. You just get double the results. There's no way (that I know of) to search for a phrase, like "remix fedora" or what ever type of App - Software you are looking for. And it can take 2 or 3 hours to read through the list of available software, when you search for something plentiful, like "web" or "internet" or "audio". Now, I've had great fun doing this for years now. But, sometimes I know what App I'm looking for. I just can't remember the name to save my life!:O

So... I would like to build my self a Custom Fedora Distro of my Own.

I've learned to use Revisor to do a Remix of Fedora 11. But, since Fedora 11. Revisor just gives Errors and Wont Run on Fedora 12, 13 or 14. I tried to find out what was going wrong, but never did. It wont even start up on my Fedora 14 System.

I have learned how to make an Install Script from a list of the Installed Apps on my System after I finish getting it setup. So, that is what I have been doing thus far. See these other Posts on my blog for more info in this...

I found a better way to get a full list of all installed apps from Yum. From this article, List installed packages with YUM at, http://www.electrictoolbox.com/yum-list-installed-packages/ ... Just run this command, "yum list installed > /tmp/yum-list.txt" (without the ") in the Terminal, after you su and give it your root password. Then go to /tmp find your new yum-list.txt file and copy the file to a folder where you want to save it. I have found allot of info on Building your Linux Distro "From Scratch". But, this involves working from the Source Code. And I don't want to spend that much time in the Command Line. I can't type long commands to save my life!:O I always Copy and Paste every where that I can. But, even then the Command Line just plain Ol, gets Old. If we were all happy doing everything in the Command Line, then Bill Gates wouldn't be the Richest Man in the World!:O So, I keep looking for a relatively easy way to do Build My Linux Distro or a Remix or just a Quicker Way to Customize and Add all of my Favorite 200 or so Apps to my New Linux OS Installs...
