My XFX HD-455X-YAF2 Radeon HD 4550 512MB Video Card Specs.

My XFX HD-455X-YAF2 Radeon HD 4550 512MB Video Card Specs.

I bought it on 12-28-2010 and have only used it on a VGA Monitor so far, as of 10-25-11. But, when I get my new 23-24 inch Wide Screen LCD - LED Monitor. It should work well.

Update: On 12-17-11, I got a Hannspree SL231DPB 23" HW7729 LCD Monitor w/ Speakers, LED Backlit, 1080p. It works great and I can read everything much better on the Big Screen. I set the Resolution to the highest setting and enlarge my Fonts. I can do this easily in Fedora Linux and Debian. Window OS's not so easy. It's now 09-08-13 and it still works great!:)

Note: my Radeon HD 4550, uses a DVI-I Connector. And I never even noticed before. But, it has HDCP Functionality. So, if I do ever get any newer Digital Video Players (Blue Ray etc.) it will work. The only thing that I don't like about it, is... That you can't use the S-Video Out, at the same time as the VGA output. The VGA and the S-Video are viewed as the same output by the Firmware. You have to be using the DVI output to be able to use the S-Video output. Or you can use the S-Vide output as the Main Video output. But, who want's to do that!??? I wanted to be able to watch Web Video on my TV, via the S-Video output. But I only have a VGA Monitor now and you have to Disconnect the VGA Cable and Boot the Computer with just the S-Video Cable Hooked up to your TV, in order to see the Video on a TV. This is a Royal Pain. So, I don't use it that way. So, I bought a PTC DVI-I Male (24+5) to VGA Female Black Adapter ASIN, B00068NUM6, Item model number, DVI-8700BK DVI to VGA Adapter. To try and get my XFX HD-455X-YAF2 Radeon HD 4550 512MB Video Card to work with both VGA and S-Video outputs at the same time. But, the Dang Adapter made my Monitor Start Smoking and was Burning up the Circuits inside!!! The monitor kept doing a Safety Shut Down. After about 20 minutes of me trying to get the thing to work, before I started smelling that Dreaded Burning of Electronics Smell. The Monitor would come on for about 10 Seconds and then go to Black. When I started smelling the smoke and realized that it was my Monitor, I never tired that again! I only paid about $2 for the Adapter, so it's not worth sending back. That monitor (a 17 inch CRT flat screen) got worse and started smelling of burning electronics after a couple of months (even though it was working fine). So, I put it in the Garage and started using an old 16 inch CRT flat screen, that someone gave me. Oh, and I order a Black one and you sent me a White one:(  That's why I really have my sights set on a new Wide Screen Monitor, now that I finally have the money to get one...

Good Upgrade

Pros: Solid, works well with dual Dell 2007FP 1600x1200 monitors
Cons: Good upgrade card for those that want more than their stock PC came with (all you Dell and HP folks) and don't want to to spend a lot of money
Other Thoughts: Moved Vista WEI from 3.1 to 3.9 and 4.8 3D. Great value for price. Purchased with Newegg package that included upgrade power suply.

Great little card

Pros: Cheap, looks good, 512mb gddr2. I bought this card for my server and to play some games while i'm in my basement. The drivers on the CD were older versions. I went to ATI/AMD's website and downloaded the updated driver for windows 7 64-bit no problem. I did not have to register or log in to anything. Driver/Catylist center runs great. Have been running counter strike source @ 1440 x 900 max settings 100FPS max 60 FPS min.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Great little card to play older games.
Server specs are:
Athlon X2 2.2ghz
Asrock AM3/AM2 n7050
2GB DDR2 1066Mhz
Radeon 4550
1 gigabit network card
WD 250GB 7200rpm
450watt psu

Great for dual display, and small gaming

Pros: best card you can get for the price, handles a lot of load very well. overclockable
Cons: not a big gaming card, but way better than stock.
Other Thoughts: played gta 4 on low (but that game take tons of graphics to play) sims 3 on high and fallout on low(out in the waste land, in any building or in the vault can go on high) gta SA on full out high. 4.3 graphics, 4.9 gaming graphics based off windows. OC to 650 mhz gpu and memory to 550 mhz, tops out at 60 C on full out load. fan isnt that loud. cool box. i would buy it and put it in something you dont really use for gaming but want to watch netflix and online gaming (runescape F.T.W)

P.S newegg wont let me type F.T.W with out periods because it thinks it's an inappropriate word

Horrible support

Pros: I dropped this into my computer as a temporary cheap video card until I get dual or triple high-end models with my next paycheck. It runs fine; I've tested a couple of game and they run ok, I knew it wasn't gonna run Crysis on 1080p with full visuals...

Newegg free shipping had it at my house within 36 hours of me placing my order.
Cons: Getting drivers or any kind of support is pretty much a ridiculous joke and hassle.

The CD that was included kept giving errors with the OS, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I went to their web-site, and to download drivers you have to register. I registered, validated my email, and downloaded the latest drivers (by the way, their online sorting tool is garbage). I reinstalled my OS today, went to log in to the site, and cant. I tried the lost password link, still waiting on an email. I tried registering under a new email, but their registration page seems to not work in Firefox, IE, and Chrome.

If this is the kind of support they provide, I do not see how they are still in business. Had the support been better, I would've given it 4 stars.
Other Thoughts: I WILL NOT ever buy from XFX again.

Great Desktop Linux Card

Pros: HD playback is good and no hassles on Ubuntu Linux
Cons: Replacing the fan with a (silent/passive) heatsink would probably void the Lifetime Warranty...
Other Thoughts: Support website responded immediately on a non-technical comment.

Good card

Pros: I did recieve rebate in a timley manner. The card is installed in a dell dimension 4700 with no problems. It runs Neverwinter Nights 2 and Oblivion very well.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: No rebate any more so this card is slightly on the expensive side again.

Great!

Pros: I got this for an amazing price when it was a Shell Shocker paired with an OCZ power supply. Worked right out of the box; quick and easy installation on Windows 7. Decent performance with Aero and some games.
Cons: This uses DDR2 memory rather than DDR3; however, this is not a real con. Not as powerful as my 9800GT. =P
Other Thoughts: This is being used in a budget build primarily with parts purchased second-hand. Running an AMD Athlon X2 4600+ 2.4 GHz, 4GB OCZ Gold DDR2-800 with this video card. Surprisingly, I am able to play the newest Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit at lowest graphics with decent FPS.

I definitely recommend this for any low- to mid-end budget machines... perhaps even for HTPCs, even though there is a lack of HDMI.
