BBC News - Ultrasound hope for fracture patients

Ultrasound hope for fracture patients

Help

Doctors at Glasgow Royal Infirmary are using ultrasound to treat patients with bone fractures.

Research found healing time for severe fractures was reduced by more than one third.

Ultrasound was first developed as a diagnostic tool at Glasgow's Western Infirmary in the 1950s.

Research has suggested the treatment encourages cells to remove bacteria, stimulates the production of new bone cells and encourages those cells to mature more rapidly.
