Free Unlimited Skype Calls from 100,000 Wi-Fi Hotspots on March 20 and 21

Free Unlimited Skype Calls from 100,000 Wi-Fi Hotspots on March 20 and 21

You can use the Skype VoIP service for free but if you want to call using a commercial wi-fi access point it will cost you money.

However this weekend  March 20/21 you can use Skype to call anywhere in the world for free if you access Skype using any one of 100,000 wi-fi hotspots world wide. A full list of the hotspot service providers participating in the offer can be found here:

The offer appears to place no limits on call duration or location. That means you call call any one you want and speak for as long as you like.  And according to the information I've received, it also appears you don't have to sign up to anything - "All that's needed is a connection to a Skype Access Hotspot and the latest version of Skype (Windows 4.2 or Mac 2.8) which can be downloaded from www.skype.com/go/download."

This sounds like a pretty sweet deal so don't be surprised if the system overloads during peak periods. Also note that the offer duration refers to UK GMT times so you need to do a timezone conversion for where you live. For example on the US East coast the offer will start 5 hours later (EST).

For more details refer to the Skype announcement below. There may be a hidden catch here but we won't know until the offer starts.
