Fuduntu team members have already moved to begin developing FuSE

With the Sad News about Fuduntu Linux - on April 14 2013, it was decided that Fuduntu would discontinue development and no new versions will be released. And as the Fuduntu Project Ends. The Developers are starting a new Project. Which they plan to call FuSE. FuSE will be based on Open SUSE. They are now working out, whether or not they will be allowed to use the name FuSE. Since it is close to the name SUSE. So, this Article says... Fuduntu Done Now, All Hail FuSE. But, the first thing that came to my mind. When I read the new word FuSE. Was, what about the long standing FUSE - Filesystem in Userspace?

Over the years. FUSE has become a Standard install, for me, in all of my Linux Systems. FUSE and FuSE are so close. That, only the correct Case, will make them Distinguishable form each other. This could cause allot of confusion, even among seasoned Linux users. I wonder if the Fusion - FuSE guys, have considered this?

It's sad to see Fuduntu, go. Just as I was getting know and like it. Fuduntu does run great on older and fairly low memory Systems. Fuduntu will run just fine on a 2GHz Celeron with 348mb of memory. I didn't realize this, until recently. When I was give a few older computers, to play with. Actually, these are newer than my other really old computers, that I have had for over 10 years. And they range from 15 to 20 years old. But, Fuduntu could make these 5 to 10 year old Computers usable again. And without spending any money, on more Memory and such. The only thing that Fuduntu lacked, was the vast Software Repository that Fedora and Debian both have. As for new FuSE Project. I have already tried out Open SUSE and don't really care for it, all that much. Not, that I really find anything actually wrong with it. I'm just too accustomed to Fedora and Debian and the Back End Apps that make them work. Like Yum and Aptitude, first and foremost. These are the Software Installation and Removing Apps that I have to deal with most every day, when working in these Systems. I like Yum best of all. I find it much easier to remember the commands for Yum. When I do have to use Yum in the Command Line, that is. Say, to clean up a broken update or install. Or for doing updates on a new system, when the GUI Apps hangs up, for unknown reasons. Ever since, about Fedora 11. Every time I install a new Fedora System. The first update hangs up in the GUI. But, works fine in Yum, in the Command Line. Anyway... I have built a few Open SUSE Remixes in Suse Studio and I have one of them installed on a System. But, after over a year. I find my self forgettng that it is even there. I keep meaning to reformat that Partition and use it for something else. But, haven't got around to it yet. So, SUSE - FuSE doesn't sound very exiting to me. It uses about the same amount or resources as Fedora and really like Fedora best of all Linus Distros. That's my 2 cents. But, you can read more about what's actually going on with FuSE, below...

Project Ends

After monitoring project activity and traffic and also reviewing all of the feedback from the community concerning our EOL I have decided to end the project effective today.  This means that beginning with our last merge from testing to stable which should happen today or tomorrow, there will be no additional updates to Fuduntu.

The majority of our user base has already moved on to other distributions, and the majority of Fuduntu team members have already moved to begin developing FuSE.  By my calculations we have less than 2,500 users left, with those numbers continuing to drop by the day.

As the project ends, you will receive an update that disables the Fuduntu stable repository.  This will allow those of you who have chosen to remain with the project after EOL to continue to do so without receiving error messages.

Thank you all for supporting our project over the years, may you all find a replacement distribution that you enjoy as much as you enjoyed Fuduntu.

Go there...
