From Blag to Debain - Artistx

Well, for the last 3 years I was running Blag Linux as my main OS. It runs on Fedora Core Linux and comes with a Boat Load of Apps already installed. But, a few months ago, I noticed a new update for Blag 9 on the site and I was running Blag 7... I decided to update mine just to see what the difference would be. That was a big mistake!:O It Crashed my whole OS! I have crashed Blag before my self, by messing around with things too much. But I was able to fix it. Not this time though. I didn't want to loose all the Apps I had added over the last 3 years so I kept waiting till I could figure out how to fix my Blag... I wrote tech support on http://blagblagblag.org/ and got one reply from the developer, but after that no more answers...  http://forums.blagblagblag.org/viewtopic.php?t=4944&highlight=don

After a few months of Limping along on an old 650mhz Celeron with WinXP, one of my backup computers. I finally decided to back up all my files and reinstall Blag 7. I could get to my files with other Linux OS's... I have over 25 Linux Distros on CD's - DVD's that I have tried out. But when I went to the Blag web site to check one more time on my Post on their support forum site... There were a bunch of Posts at the Forum http://forums.blagblagblag.org/ about all the Blag Servers Being down for over a month and no one knew what was happening or where the Developer went to. Well... I decided to check just now, since I hadn't in a month or two since I decided to try another Linux Distro and guess what.. everything seem to up and running!:) Well, anyway... I decided to try another Distro . One that I hadn't installed on a HD yet. Enter Debain and Artistx... I had been wanting to try Artistx on a HD, ever since I tried out the Live Boot DVD. It ran pretty slow on my machine from the DVD (P4 with 2.4ghz processor and 890mb of ram). But, it has every Audio - Video App you could imagine on it!:) And that was the one thing I found lacking in Fedora Core Based Linux Distros.  It didn't support allot of Audio - Video Apps. So, I'm just getting my Debain - Artistx tweaked out right now. Finding out which e-mail App I want to stick with. I have been using Thunderbird for the past 3 years and this one has 3 versions and KMail too... The Browsers are all variations on Firefox, except one which is actually based on Netscape. My favorite is Firefox, but I don't like the way the bookmarks are handled in Firefox 3... One thing though on the Browsers... the Flash Plug-ins and such, mostly have to be installed manually in the terminal and I don't like that. I'm still not through doing all that, after over a month of using this system. I am already having thoughts of going back to a Fedora based Distro. But I want to at least try out some of the AV Apps first... I haven even started trying out the AV Apps yet. Artistx is a Free Linux Live CD - DVD. You can discover this Multi Media, audio - video Distro at Artistx.org ... I followed the instructions on their web site to install it on my Hard Drive, since it runs allot faster that way for me. First you have to Download and install a Base Debain System, Etch -in-a-half is what I used. After you get Debain installed, you just have to copy and paste the commands from the Artistx web site into a Terminal and hit enter. Be Online for the install and this too... I'm still installing my favorite Apps and discovering all the new ones.. I posted about Artistx on the LinuxMusicians site last night and I got some answers today. http://www.linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?t=848 Looks like these guys like some other ones better. But one of them is 64 bit and my machine is only 32 bit. So... I guess I'll ask and see what else they know about 32 bit systems... Let me know if you find anything interesting... k.
