Cinco de Mayo has its roots in the French occupation of Mexico

I was born and raised in Texas. And for the last 35 years or so. I have heard about, this mysterious Holiday. That I never really knew, what it was all about. Over they years. On occasion. When I asked my Mexican American friends. What is this Celebration for and what is it all about? I only got some very vague and incomplete, Answers. So, I never really knew, what the Celebration, was for. I just knew. That there were ever growing crowds. Attending these ever growing Celebrations. With Mexican Music and allot of (I'm sure good) Mexican Food. Today, I saw, something Online. About, Cinco de Mayo coming up. So, I decided, it was about time, to do a little research. I was surprised, by what I found. It has to do with an invasion by the French, in Mexico, back in 1862. "Cinco de Mayo has its roots in the French occupation of Mexico, which took place in the aftermath of the Mexican–American War of 1846–48 and the 1858–61 Reform War". Check out the short video below and the info and links too...
