Walmart Announces Smartphone Trade-In Program

Ahead of this afternoon's iPhone event, Walmart today announced a smartphone trade-in program that will provide between $50 and $300 for your older phone.

Starting on Sept. 21, consumers can bring their smartphone into 3,600 participating Walmart and Sam's Club locations around the country and get immediate credit that can be used for more than 100 smartphones.

The amount you receive will depend on the state of your smartphone. Those funds could then be applied to a new phone, like the Samsung Galaxy S4, with a two-year contract or a pre-paid plan from the retailer's own Straight Talk.

The value of the smartphones will be determined via a partnership with CExchange, which will refurbish, reuse, or recycle the used devices.
