Due to a combination of new, innovative ways of managing technical support, and the release of their new and justifiably-hyped Windows 7, the Microsoft technical support telephone lines are relatively clear. Microsoft has said that the volume of calls they are receiving is half of what they expected.
It's not hard to see why, when drawing comparisons against Vista, the ugly hunchbacked cousin of Windows Me. But it's not simply down to a better operating system: Microsoft has implemented a few new methods to get people unstuck as quickly as possible.
Apparently, using their new Windows Community -- a forum where solutions are provided by helpful people and later checked for accuracy by Microsoft itself -- 83 percent of of English-language queries are resolved within a week.
Their recent addition of a 'Twitter Helpdesk' is probably the neatest example of their new methods of tech support. Just drop a tweet to @microsofthelps and watch as a panel of seven Microsoft employees respond... in 140 characters or less!
