Video - Stream the DrivePro 200 to your Computer via VLC Media Player

Here's an interesting Dash Cam. The DrivePro 200. It's made for recording Video, wile driving your Car. In the case of an accident, it will auto record. When it senses, a certain G-Force. Such as Hitting the Breaks, Hard or Hitting Something, that Stops your Car Quickly. And it could be used, just to record a nice Scenic Drive, as well. It does 1080-P video. But, sadly, does Not, Record Audio. So, now Sound, in your Rod Trip Videos. What, kind of fun, is that? But, there is an interesting thing, that you can do with this Camera. And that's what caught my interest. Well, until, I found out, that it wont record Audio, that is. It will send it's Video Stream out, via WiFi. In the video, below. A fellow called Gadget Addict, shows you how he got his DrivePro 200. To Stream Video to his Laptop, and Play it back in VLC Media Player. The Free and Open Source, Media Software. It did pretty well and could be useful, in several ways. I have been looking around, for an inexpensive way. To do How To and Project Videos. When I'm working in the Garage, on Projects etc. But, without the capability, of recording Audio. The the DrivePro 200. Won't be of any use to me. I found the Transcend TS16GDP200 16GB Drive Pro 200 Car Video Recorder with Built-In Wi-Fi. Sold by Transcend on Amazon.com for, $116.41 with FREE Shipping, today. So, that's a bit more, than I would spend, for a Camera, like this one. But, for it's intended Purpose and maybe a few more, you cold dream up. It might be a good Camera for some... Stream the DrivePro 200 to your computer

In this video I show you how to view the live stream of your Transcend DrivePro 200 camera in VLC or any other software that supports RTSP.

It's a regular RTSP stream but you need to do some magic to trigger the 'mobile mode' on the DrivePro. Right now I'm triggering it by telneting into port 9001 and 9002 on the camera. Telneting in can be near instant or take up to 30 seconds, it seems to be random. I know there must be a better way because the mobile app triggers it in a split second. Once connected to both ports, the drivepro will enable mobile mode and you can open the stream in VLC using the address: rtsp://192.168.0.1:8554/MJPEG_unicast

My guess would be that the mobile app on Android / iOS sends a UDP packet to the camera to trigger the mobile mode. It's hard to sniff the traffic because only one device can connect to the DrivePro WiFi at any time.

Once the DrivePro enters the mobile mode, you can open the RTSP stream in your favorite software, my preference is VLC.

Just like the official mobile apps, you will not get audio over the stream. I'm pretty sure you could play back the saved files too, although I haven't yet worked out how.

You'll also see in the video that I found a way to get the camera to run scripts. You create a folder called 'Batch' and inside that folder create BatchScripts.txt . Inside BatchScripts.txt put the word 'test' (without quotes). Then create files test.pat and test.srt and put your code in both of them. The only thing is, I don't know what kind of script/code needs to be entered into these files. Looking through the firmware, There appears to be some kind of shell (Altek Shell / IPCOM Shell) and there are references/code for various linux programs. It would be awesome if we could get shell access to these like the Transcend wifi SD card hack!
