I'm running Fedora Linux 19 Jam on a Dell 1525 Laptop. With a Core 2 2GHz Processor. With 3GB of Ram. And it runs very well. I use Kdenlive to edit Videos. It's my favorite Video Editing App. But, due to the limited HD Space, I have on this system. I don't edit videos allot on it. I really mostly just, use it to watch Web Video, on my TV. It works quite well for this. So, I'm looking for a good Distro to install on a Desktop System, that I acquired. When doing some repairs on a system, for someone. I ended up building them a new system and kept the eMachines for parts. It is an AMD 2GHz Duel Core. With only 2GB of Ram. Running on an ASRock N68C-GS FX Motherboard. This was an eMachines PC. That had Bad Caps Syndrome. With several Popped Capacitors, on the Motherboard. And I had the a brand new N68C-GS FX Mobo, on hand. So, I used the Processor and Memory from the eMachines. Along with the Box. I also, had to install a used 450 Watt Power Supply, that I had on hand, too. The eMachines PSU, works. But the Caps are swollen in it too. And look like they could Pop at any time. Really, all I want, from this machine. Is a good Media Player, for watching Web Video, on the TV. Or I could make a Web Server out of it. But, I figure, a good AV Distro, will give me a very good start and support for playing Audio and Video. Hopefully most Codecs, will come with the Distro. So, that's what led me to review the Fedora Jam Spin. But, the new Fedora 20 Jam Spin. Only comes, with KDE Desktop. And I really like Mate (Gnome 2) much better. That's what I have used, since 2005 and love it. I've been trying out, other Distros, lately. Like, AV Linux and Neptune Linux. Both are Debian Based Distros. And I like them allot too. The great thing about Debian, is that it uses much less resources, than Fedora. But, I have been running Fedora as my main OS, since 2005. So, I'm very accustomed to Fedora and how things work, in it. Such as Yum, as apposed to Apt. For Package management. Anyway... I found this page, with the commands, to turn your Fedora System, into a Jam Spin. With one simple Yum Command. Check it out below. And I'll put more info links below too...
Don Installing the Fedora Jam audio packages
If you want to use your own Desktop Environment (rather than KDE as used by the spin) you can simply just install the Fedora Jam audio packages. To do this:
sudo yum groupinstall "Audio Production"
This will install all of the audio packages currently on the spin.
Downloading the spin
To download the audio spin:
1. Go to the nightly composes page.
2. Look for the latest entry with "fedora-live-jam_kde" for your architecture (i386 or x86_64)
3. Select the ISO link at the bottom of the following page (first link in the Output section):
