I've loved old Cars, ever since I can remember. When I was a boy...

I had a 1964 Chevy Panel Truck, back in 1975. It didn't have any side windows, in the back. That's the difference between a Panel Truck & Suburban. It had a Straight Six & Standard 3 Speed on the Tree. I drove it to Colorado & lived - camped in it. With my girlfriend, from July 4th to the middle of Sept, 1975. We spent some cold nights in that thing, 30F in the mountains in Summer. It rained inside of it every morning (condensation from humans breathing inside). All steel interior, no Interior Panels of any kind. We tried heating it with our Coleman Stove, which burned White Gas - Coleman Fuel. We almost didn't wake up that night, before we got dead. I had cracked the windows for ventilation, but not quite enough. Another night, I built a big fire. Right close to the rear drivers side of the truck, for warmth through the night. It worked great. We stayed warm till 4 or 5AM. The next morning. I realized, that I had chosen the side where the Gas Cap & Filler Neck was!:O Thank God, we didn't blow up that night either!. The old Truck, was slow, but dependable. The old Truck held up well. Until I decided to drive it up Mount Pisgah in Colorado. I threw a Rod, right through the side of the block. We had to call for a Tow Truck. And someone gave us a ride to a local Lodge, while we waited. It was nice warming up, at the Circular Fireplace, which went up through all stories of the Loge Lodge. Such a Beautiful Place. We got towed to Hidden Valley Skelley Gas & Towing. So, I had to call home, and ask for money. I wanted Mom to ship my 454 to me, there in CO. And I would build it and put it in there. In front of the Gas Station. We were living in the Panel Truck, in front of Skelly Gas Station and Towing. Near Colorado Springs, I believe. Between the Bigger Towns, anyway. Of course, we couldn't stay there that long. It was very nice of the owner, to even let us stay there. Free of charge, for a couple of weeks. And I didn't have the tools, money or real know-how. To actually build an Engine, outdoors. While living in the Vehicle... My Mom, didn't have the money, to help me, either. So, my Grand Parents. Came to the Rescue, again. What would I have done, without my Family?... I bought another Straight Six, from a Junkyard. And the Owner of the Gas Station. Went and got it. And used his Wrecker. To pull the old Motor. And to drop the new, slightly used, Motor in the Truck. He was actually impressed. At how quickly, I & my girlfriend. Got that Motor hooked back up and got the Truck Running again. I had him, put the old blown motor, in the Back of the Panel Truck. I thought I might need it for Parts. That new Motor Smoked Allot... (also see, http://www.colomar.com/ColoradoPlaces/mosquito_pass.html) But, the Trans, kept jumping out of 1st gear & into neutral. We were almost at the top. But we had to turn around & go back down. Which was a long detour. I was so Pissed about not being able to make it over the Pass. I was driving 70+MPH on those Dirt Roads. Scaring my girl so much. That she actually asked me to slow down, more than once. Mind you, She was used to me hitting 110MPH in my 1964 Chevelle (Transplanted with a 350 Motor & Power Glide Trans). Every morning on the way to High School (I graduated in 1975). Back to the 64 Panel Truck... We had a Blow out on a Back Tire, on those dirt roads, going way too fast! No problem though, it didn't even swerve. I just let off the gas & took my time stopping. No breaks, till we were slowed way down. We had almost all of our clothes in a big Duffle Bag. Ready to go to the Laundromat, when we got to Leadville. I had to take it out, to get to the Spare Tire. I was even more "Mad at the World" by this time. In a hurry & Pissed. I forgot to put the Duffle Bag back in the truck & drove off. I did slow down, after that, though. We didn't notice the missing Bag of Clothes, until we got to Leadville.
