VirSCAN.org - Free Multi-Engine Online Virus Scanner v1.02

Sometimes when you scan your computer for viruses, there can be a "false positive" reported on a file or files. If you have reason to suspect a false positive, here are some web sites that you can upload the suspected infected file and have it scanned to see what other Viruses Scanners Report on it. Don't forget to make a note of the files location in your system or copy and paste the location of the file from your Virus Scan Report into the web sites browse box. I noticed that pasting didn't always work in the browse box, so you may just want to paste the files location into an e-mail or document for your own reference.

Here they are...

VirSCAN.org - Free Multi-Engine Online Virus Scanner v1.02, Supports 37 AntiVirus Engines!

VirSCAN.org is a FREE on-line scan service, which checks uploaded files for malware, using antivirus engines, indicated in the VirSCAN list. On uploading files you want to be checked, you can see the result of scanning and how dangerous and harmful/harmless for your computer those files are.

This service is by no means 100% safe. If this scanner says 'OK', it does not necessarily mean the file is clean. There could be a whole new virus on the loose. NEVER rely on one single product only, not even this service, even though it utilizes several products. Therefore, We cannot and will not be held responsible for any damage caused by results presented by this non-profit online service.

Scanning can take a while, since several scanners are being used, plus the fact some scanners use very high levels of (time consuming) heuristics. Scanners used are Linux versions, differences with Windows scanners may or may not occur. Some scanners will only report one virus when scanning archives with multiple pieces of malware.

Virus definitions are updated every hour. There is a 10Mb limit per file. Please refrain from uploading tons of hex-edited or repacked variants of the same sample.

Please do not ask for viruses uploaded here, unless you work for an anti-virus vendor. They are not for trade. This is a legitimate service, not a VX site. Viruses uploaded here will be distributed to antivirus vendors without exception. Read more about this in our privacy policy. If you do not want your files to be distributed, please do not send them at all.

Free online virus scan

If you discover a suspicious file on your machine, or suspect that a program you downloaded from the Internet might be malicious, you can check the files here.

Indicate the file to be checked; it will automatically be uploaded from your computer to a dedicated server, where it will be scanned using Kaspersky Anti-Virus. Multiple independent tests and publications acknowledge the solution to have exceptional detection rates. Updates every three hours ensure that even the very newest viruses can be detected.

Only one file of up to 1 MB can be checked at any one time. If the file is too large, a window with an error message will be displayed. Type the name of the file in the window at the top of this page, or find the file using 'Browse'. Then click on 'Submit'.

If you have several potentially suspicious files, you can check them one after the other, or create an archive file (in zip, arj or similar format) and check that. The archive should not be larger than 1 MB.

By the way... The file that I was concerned about from my Aegis AntiVirus Scan on my Debain Linux Box comes out Clean on all these sites. But was reported as infected by Aegis. This seems to be a common problem with Aegis. I would use another AntiVirus App like Avast, but They don't run in Debain Etch in a Half, which is what I'm running now.  Here's the message I get...

"File is infected!
The file //usr/lib/codecs/vp31vfw.dll is infected with the W32/Magistr.a@MM virus!"

Why a Windows dll file in Linux? You ask??? Wine... Wine uses dll files. You know the Windows Emulator named Wine... Ok, bla bla bla... Enough computer Geeky talk;) Anyways, these sited are very helpful in the case where you think a file is Not really infected, but has been reported as being infect by you AntiVirus Software in WindBlows or Linux Machines...
