"nspluginwrapper makes it possible to use Netscape 4 compatible plugins compiled for i386 into Mozilla for another architecture, e.g. x86_64.
This package consists in: * npviewer: the plugin viewer * npwrapper.so: the browser-side plugin * nspluginplayer: stand-alone NPAPI plugin player * mozilla-plugin-config: a tool to manage plugins installation and update"
I'm going to uninstall this App and see if it fixes my Problems. This is Beyond aggravating and has almost crippled my beloved Firefox:( Google Chrome, handles Flash a little better, but still is vulnerable to this problem. On the plus side. I have learned to appreciate Chrome a little more lately;) It would be great if it just had all of the features that Firefox has;) Here's some more info that I found, which helped to lead me to this conclusion...

Update: This did help allot!:)

Re: What is npviewer.bin? Why it takes all computer's power?
It's related to flash-player in 64bit I think, the package nspluginwrapper supplies it
Flash player is 32 bit arch, this enables it's use in a 64 bit environment.Box: openSUSE 11.3 | Gnome 2.3 | AMD 64 X2 5200+ | nVidia 8500GT | 4GB RAM

Re: What is npviewer.bin? Why it takes all computer's power?
Hm, though running a 32bit system, I also have this package:
I remember npviewer.bin being pretty annoying when having watched Flash-content: after finishing Flash it would still appear in my process-list untill manually killed. This got solved by some update I suppose, at least Flash is behaving nicely over here since a while now.Code:kalle@hoppers:~> locate npview /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/i386/linux/npviewer /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/i386/linux/npviewer.bin /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/noarch/npviewer

Re: What is npviewer.bin? Why it takes all computer's power?
You can delete it on 32 bit. I have. And flash is fine.
I bug reported this yonks ago, back in 11.1 the same behaviour. It seemed to get installed by default. Yet I remember helping folk who, with _64, had managed to install flash-player and yet not have nspluginwrapper! Strange..

A quick search for: WARNING: unhandled variable 18, returns the following bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nspluginwrapper/+bug/592492 It suggests that setting "dom.ipc.plugins.enabled=true" in about:config. With this set right clicking on the flash player correctly shows the context menu and does not freeze Firefox. This appears to be an effective workaround but not a fix since a firefox config setting should not freeze Firefox/NSPlugin. This is what I see for the page http://www.redhat.com/promo/summit/2010/highlights/ from terminal with "dom.ipc.plugins.enabled=true":

Firefox crash: npviewer.bin is not responding. Firefox crashes frequently when surfing on certain pages. Well, now I am bit more confused I have mozilla-vlc plugin installed. What I thinkl I found out is that it might cause the problem or then solve it. I don't have nspluginwrapper installed unless it has installed with some other software. But, one thing that I found common to my pc crashing is that everytime there are multiple npviewers open when I kill firefox after hangup. __________________ Running Fedora8 32-bit and KDE 3.5.8 with: Processor: Intel core2duo E6550 Motherboard: ASUS P5K Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 8600GTS (driver ver. 100.14.19) Hard disk: 160GB SATA Western Digital Caviar SE 7200rpm Memory: 2GB RAM DDR2 667MHz |

What is the actual reason for hangups? Sometimes not a single one of those flash contents on a page is shown. Then on the same site on another subpage multiple flashes work without any problem. It does not really matter, since they usually are just adds. But it does matter when browser crashes because of it. Can anyone tell why the hangup occurs in the first place? My guess is that web designers are trying too hard to make fancy technical pages and have totally forgotten for what reason webpages are made for. __________________ Running Fedora8 32-bit and KDE 3.5.8 with: Processor: Intel core2duo E6550 Motherboard: ASUS P5K Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 8600GTS (driver ver. 100.14.19) Hard disk: 160GB SATA Western Digital Caviar SE 7200rpm Memory: 2GB RAM DDR2 667MHz |

have you downloaded an extracted a firefox Tarball from the mozilla site? or use swiftfox , but the gecko crashes are due to fedora's Firefox being at fault |

Installing Swiftfox helped. It seems that browser/flashplayer does not crash anymore and shows flash content correctly. But some other issue came up. Some links and filenames do not work. http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=176827 __________________ Running Fedora8 32-bit and KDE 3.5.8 with: Processor: Intel core2duo E6550 Motherboard: ASUS P5K Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 8600GTS (driver ver. 100.14.19) Hard disk: 160GB SATA Western Digital Caviar SE 7200rpm Memory: 2GB RAM DDR2 667MHz |

Ok, This is Great!!!:) I after uninstalling the nspluginwrapper. Now the plugin-containe Process handles the Flash Videos. At least it does on the Page that gave me all of my headaches today. It's at, http://reeltruths.com/cool-it/ if you want to use this one as a test for yours. Now my Firefox is only using 5% CPU and 129MG of Memory and the plugin-containe Process handling the Flash Video is only using 15% to (at most on startup of the video) 30% CPU and 39MB of Memory. That's more like it!!! I have now idea if the nspluginwrapper App was installed along with another App (Browser or Player perhaps) or if I installed it my self, just because it sounded good in the description. I do that allot... I find interesting Apps and install them to see if I like the. Then later, I have no memory of it at all:o I know, I know... But I can't help my self;)
