Q: Nautilus shows a volume I do not want to access, OR Nautilus does not show a volume I want to access

A: The current policy (as of Nautilus 2.22) is explained on Bugzilla by David Zeuthen.

Q: I can't find the "Open Terminal" menu item on the desktop context menu. Was that functonality removed in Nautilus 2.12?

A: Yes, this was removed from Nautilus, since we consider terminals only suitable for power users. However, there is a more powerful third party extension to Nautilus: nautilus-open-terminal. It can open terminals in all your local folders and for remote SFTP connections.

Q: Why Spatial Navigation does leave the parent window opened?

A: If you want to close the parent window, just use middle-click instead of left-click to open directories, or SHIFT-double-click.

Q: I created my custom theme, but the search bar and other extra widgets in Nautilus show up in a blue color instead of obeying my theme's background color.

A: Nautilus names its location widgets "nautilus-extra-view-widget", so you will have to add special theme sections for them. There is also an example available for customizing your

Q: How can I tell Nautilus to NOT store disc images under /tmp when burning CDs or DVDs? I don't have enough disk space.

A: Either mount another partition with enough disk space under /tmp, or set the GConf key A: "/apps/nautilus-cd-burner/temp_iso_dir" to the desired path.

Q: Is there some way to mark files as hidden so they are not shown in nautilus views?

A: See Hidden Files section of the nautilus user guide.
