A friend and I were Discussing the New AC Band Routers and Internet Connection Problems, Via e-mail. I thought this would be interesting. So, I'm Posting it, in this Blog. These e-mails are in Reverse Order. It was too confusing, form me to try and put them in Chronological Order...

I read the reviews of different Trendnets routers and I am staying away from them. At this moment the only device I have in my house that will benefit from this AC speed is my SUHD-TV-4K. My two laptops, Desktop, my WiFi DVD player and tablets are N band. So really I have no use for the AC band at this time. My router is working just fine.

Well, the TRENDnet AC1900 Dual Band Wireless AC Gigabit Router, sounds ok. But, my old TRENDNET-TEW-651BR Router. Is a piece of Junk! The WiFi, will slow down to 2mbps, constantly. And sometimes to nothing. I turned of the WiFi, on it. To stop the Laptops form accidentally connecting to it. And to cut down on Radio Interference, for my other Routers. It was a bit better, when it was new. But, I thin now. It can't compete with the other signals, in the area. And even the Wired Connections. Slow down over time. I have to Reboot it, to keep it working at all. I wouldn't even use it. But, I need it, for all of my extra Computers. And the Linksys, is beginning to go out, I think. One of the Wired Connectors. Stopped working, at all. And the WiFi is not as dependable, as it use to be. Actually, I have to Reboot all of my Routers, once a week or so now. To keep them working well...
I have a TP-LINK TL-WDR4300 Wireless N750 Dual Band Router, Gigabit, 2.4GHz 300Mbps+5Ghz 450Mbps, 2 USB port, Wireless On-Off Switch. And it's pretty good. Especially, with the Wired Connections. With the Gigabit Speed. It doesn't seem to bog down, on the Wired Connections. It can handle, sending all of my 100mb connections out to the Internet, well. Seems better, than the old Linksys, was as my Internet Facing Router. It has 2.4ghz and 5ghz and does N Mode. But, some things I have noticed. The 5ghz Signal is much weaker than the 2.4ghz. I mean, it cuts in and out, easier. And does not even work, in the Garage. When I connect the DVD Blue Ray Streamer, in the living room, on 5ghz. It looses connection, often. So, it's not really usable, at 5ghz. And most of my Devices. Don't have a 5ghz WiFi Card - Built in Radio, anyway. So, it's of no benefit. Unless you have a 5ghz WiFi Card - Chip, in your Device. The 2.4ghz is fine, most of the time. Sometimes, it looses connection too, on the DVD Streamer. But, is fine after a Reboot of the DVD Device. So, I think. There's the problem, with the Ram or Video Chip Memory getting full, on the Device. Sometimes, Lagging and Seemingly Caching Video, on Streamers. But sometimes, it's actually the Devices Memory filling up. Or even the Processor being over taxed. I had this problem, the the Pentium PC's that I setup, for Video Streaming. After HD Video Streaming, became common. They just couldn't keep up, any more. I have this problem on the Lenovo i5 too. Even though it is a Quad Core, with 4 Gig or Ram. It only has 256mb of Onboard Video Memory. So, I have to Reboot it. Every time the Video Memory fills up. This depends on what type of Applications I am running. YouTube Videos and Flash on Web Sites, is the Worst, on it... There is one problem, with the TP-Link N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router Model No TL-WDR4300 (mine) and other Routers NetUSB driver leaves millions of Routers Vulnerable including my TP-Link N750 TL-WDR4300 Router (But I have USB and FTP Sharing Turned off).
Below I'm pasting, some info from the Manuals for my TP-LINK TL-WDR4300 Wireless N750 Dual Band Router, Gigabit, 2.4GHz 300Mbps+5Ghz 450Mbps, 2 USB port, Wireless On-Off Switch. And the Data Sheet, PDF is Attached to this e-mail...

Here at my house. Mine and the Neighbors, both. I took the ScreenShots, rather quickly. While watching the signals, change. All withing a minute, of total watching time...

I noticed, something odd, about the Speeds. The 5ghz Radio is Slower than the 2.4ghz in the N Band. This is the opposite of my TP-Link. Seems Strange... The AC Band, shows to be Fast, at 1.3Gbps. But, do you have any Devices, that can even connect to the AC Band?

So have you read any reviews of the new AC Band of routers. Charter is renting this one and one other for $5 per month. Not that I am going to pay for that. I will buy my own.

Ya, what happens, basically. Is the Cache on the Routers, gets filled up. And Rebooting them will Clean out the Cache. Routers, have anywhere from about 512MB to 16MB of Ram on their On-board Memory Chips. So, the older, the Router, the less Memory, they have, to work with. And most of the Stock Firmware, is not very good at handling Today's High Bandwidth Network - Internet Traffic. I have an old Wired Netgear Router. And it will get overwhelmed, in 1 day of running on the Web. It, seems to do better, if I just use it for a Local LAN. So, does my older Trendnet 100Mbps Wired and 150Mbps WiFi Router. It may last for a few days or it may not. You never now. But, my old Linksys Router, Model WRT54G. Which is 100Mbps Wired and 150Mbps WiFi, does great. I have my server plugged into it. And the Linksys is plugged into my Newest Router. A TP-Link N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router Model TL-WDR4300. Sometimes I go a month or two, without having any problems. And sometimes I have to reboot them once or twice a week. I don't know, in my case. If it has more to do with Charter or the Traffic coming into my Web Server. Or if it's my Routers Cache getting filled up. One big Problem is... As Internet Traffic keeps increasing on Bandwidth Usages. As it does... The Hardware and Software in the Routers, just cant keep up. I've read quite a bit about it, over the years. And it's pretty hard to explain. Or even remember the details, for that matter. But, that's the basics of it. Sometimes, you can increase their performance. By updating the Firmware or changing to something like WDRT or OpenWrt Router Firmware. If there is a version, available for your Router. I think you did that with your Linksys... I still haven't done mine. Because it has always been connected to my Web Server and I don't want to take my Server Offline and risk Bricking my Router, as well. The IBM, you gave me, is my Server. And the Linksys, is the only Router, that works with the IBM's On-board NIC. I tried to use a PCI NIC. But, that broke the Internet Connection. The Local LAN worked, but the Server wold not connect to the Internet. Weird Problem... So, I keep it behind the Firewall of the TP-Link and just Point to the Linksys and IBM, for my Web Server... Anyway... Ya, I wouldn't be surprised, if an old Router's Cache would get filled up, every day or so. Or even sooner, under heavy Data Usage...

Charter has been doing pretty well, for me, Lately. I did have to Reboot my Routers, a couple of times, in the last week or so. Pages were loading slowly. But, Not the Modem. Maybe, it's just in your neighborhood...
