This is one of my favs in the realm of 1960's retro futurism, not because of what they got wrong but because of how much they got right. Wall mounted television screens, online shopping, and microwave ovens - pretty good for 1967. They do make on of the classic retro future epic fails by predicting we'd be swimming in leisure time - I work more now than I did 20 years ago, and get paid less. Also, they failed to predict the couple would be morbidly obese - but still, pretty accurate! Kudos for the design work on their futuristic props!

Promotional short for the Bell Telephone pavilion at the 1962 World's Fair in Seattle. Although this was a small fair, it gave us perhaps the second most iconic centerpiece of any Fair (after the Eiffel Tower) in the Space Needle. The Space Needle is also the most recognized structure in the Googie architecture style that dominated the retro future look of the 1950's and 60's. Plus we get a front row seat on the monorail built by Alweg!

Frigidaire promotional short from the 1964 NY World's Fair. Includes several excellent shots from the General Motors Futurama ride as well as the 'kitchen of tomorrow,' which is pretty much the kitchen of today. Especially cringe worthy is what they planned on doing to the rain forests.

"Design for Dreaming" is a short film advertisement for General Motors' 1956 Motorama automobile exhibit. Some great mid-50's retro futurism in this little classic, including General Motors' Firebird II concept car, Frigidaire's Kitchen of the Future, and a nifty little retro future city model at the end for the happy couple to drive the Firebird II about on a test drive. Quick notes on that Firebird II: fully independent suspension, disc brakes, ran on kerosene, and the body panels were pure titanium. And in case you were wondering, the hot chick's name is Tad Tadlock.
