Old Laptops on the Internet - Video and info links

This is cool! I love old Computers and Electronics. I have a Radio Shack TRS-80. And I have been wondering if I could get it to connect to the Internet. By setting up a ZigBee Wireless Connection to my Router. Or by Sharing a Network Connection, with a Computer, via Ethernet. Just for fun... This guy, does it with two old Laptops, in his Video (below). And he provides some interesting links, to pages, that he followed to set it up for a Dialup Connection. I still have a NetZero Dial up account, just in case my Cable Connection, goes down. And I start getting Internet Withdrawal Symptoms;) So, might be able to try this, without his "Ringer Circuit". That he built. Still, very interesting. Reminds me of the Windows 98 Home Networking, via Modem...

I had a bunch of old dial up modems around, so I decided to do something more . . . er . . . I wouldn't say useful.....

The modems connect through a "dial in server" which I was able to make after following a bunch of tutorials I found. Apparently some combination of them makes it work. The idea behind the thing is that you are supposed to dial up from a remote location and access your own network, kind of like VPN, but the connection is over phone lines instead of the internet. But it also works perfectly well to connect these old computers back onto the internet the way it was done back then. I used Ubuntu 10.04 since it is still supported until next year and has an old enough kernel for my (win)modem to work on it.

I got the server to work using

plus some additional Googling and much head scratching.
