Changes to Google Groups profiles
Beginning July 1, 2011, you will not be able to change your Google Groups profiles. You will be able to download the contents of your profile until November 1, 2011, at which time your Google Groups profile will be deleted.
Any nicknames that you have set for your groups will continue to be displayed to those groups, and you still will be able to set nicknames for any groups you join. In addition, if you are using the new version of Google Groups, you can enhance your appearance on Google Groups by linking your account to your Google Profile.
Downloading your Google Groups profile
To export your Groups profile in the old version of Google Groups:
- Sign in to Google Groups.
- Click View your full profile under the “My profile & stats” section.
- Click Export profile as a Zip file or Export profile as vCard depending on the format you want. If you plan to import your contact information into Google Contacts, Microsoft Outlook or similar programs, you might want to use vCard. If your target destination for your contact information does not support vCard, you can use the Zip file retrieve a plain text version so you can copy and paste your information.

The new Google Groups user interface represents the first in a series of updates to Google Groups. This new Google Groups user interface focuses primarily on the ability to participate in discussions. Most all administration-style tasks are still completed using the original Google Groups interface. Refer to Google Groups (original UI) versus Google Groups (new UI) for further information on the types of tasks handled by the original and new user interfaces.
If you are totally new to Google Groups, and you want to create a new Group, refer to What is a Google Group? to get started.
