All It Takes Are Dots to Make These Useful Windows Keyboard Shortcuts

In Windows, the shortcuts are entered in the Run line. To open Run, use the keyboard combination 
    Windows key+R
With the Run line open, you are ready for the following very simple shortcuts.

Windows XP

In Windows XP, there are shortcuts formed by entering one, two, or three dots (periods) in the Run line.  

  • Enter one dot—opens the user folder Documents and Settings\{username}
  • Enter two dots—opens the folder Documents and Settings
  • Enter three dots—opens My Computer

Windows Vista/7

There are only two shortcuts for Vista/7

  • Enter one dot—opens the user folder Users\{username}
  • Enter two dots—opens the Users folder (the one above the logged-in user folder)
