Hate the new Windows 'start menu'? Get the classic XP menu back with this little app!

By now a lot of you will have experienced the 'All-in-One Omnipotent Start Menu' thing that was first introduced with Windows Vista and can now be found in Windows 7. It combines My Computer, My Documents and your installed programs into one big, gribbly menu.

Some people love it. Some hate it. Personally, I like the all-in-one search/run input box... but that's about it. I much prefer the old drop-out menu, even if it is a bit stupid when you've got 500 programs installed. I still use icons on my desktop, rather than getting at everything through my Start Menu.

mbed is a next-generation 32-bit microcontroller platform. It’s a prototyping and teaching tool somewhat along the lines of Arduino. On steroids. With claws and fangs. Other contenders in this class include the MAKE Controller, STM32 Primer and Primer 2, Freescale Tower, and Microchip’s PIC32 Starter Kit. The mbed hardware has a number of advantages (and a few disadvantages) compared to these other platforms, but what really sets it apart is the development environment: the entire system — editor, compiler, libraries and reference materials — are completely web-based. There is no software to install or maintain on the host system.

The Hardware

The mbed board is sensibly priced at $60; about middle of the road among its peers. mbed’s size (or lack thereof) is among its greatest assets, measuring only about 1″ by 2″ (26 x 52mm) in a stout 40-pin DIP package that just barely manages to fit in a breadboard…a major win.

389 adminutil is libraries of functions used to administer directory servers, usually in conjunction with the admin server.  adminutil is broken into two libraries - libadminutil contains the basic functionality, and libadmsslutil contains SSL versions and wrappers around the basic functions.  The PSET functions allow applications to store their preferences and configuration parameters in LDAP, without having to know anything about LDAP.  The configuration is cached in a local file, allowing applications to function even if the LDAP server is down.  The other code is typically used by CGI programs used for directory server management, containing GET/POST processing code as well as resource handling (ICU ures API).

Introduction

AdminUtil is a set of utility functions written in C, which are divided into 2 groups: libadminutil and libadmsslutil. They are mainly used in the Admin Server / CGI services to communicate with the configuration Directory Server. It covers, e.g., login to Admin Server using the authentication with the Directory Server. AdminUtil also provides CGI utilities such as parsing GET/POST arguments. AdminUtil is needed to build the Admin Server.
