hello Don Bishop did you tried to use SSD card in this server? Im getting 250mbs read and 150write speads in my g7,i believe thats not good for ssd drive, maybe there are some tweaks in this server for beter speeds
No, mine came with 8 - 146GB HP SAS Drives. I'm using 6 of them for the Fedora OS, in RAID 5. I have an 8TB Segate USB Backup Drive with a SATA Drive inside. I plan on getting 2 more, and taking them out of their cases and put them in the other 2 Slots in the Server. I make allot of videos. So, I value Storage Space over Speed. Those SSD's are still too expensive, per TB, for my taste. Also, I have done some research on SATA vs SSD Drives. Here's a good article on Long Term Testing of SATA Drives ( https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-stats-for-2019/ ). Also, It looks like the life expectancy of SSD - Flash Storage, is about 10 to 11 years at best. Before they start getting Bit Rot or out right fail. Here's another good article, SSD 101: How Reliable are SSDs? "Question: How long can we reasonably expect an SSD to last? Answer: An SSD should ideally last as long as its manufacturer expects it to last (e.g. five years), provided that the use, provided that the use of the drive is not excessive for the technology it employs (e.g. using a QLC in an application with a high number of writes)." I have IDE Hard Drives, from the early 90's that still work just fine. Of course they are too small to use for storage. I've had trouble with SD Cards (Flash Memory) Corrupting Data and breaking the OS on my Raspberry Pi. And I have seen other reports of Plash Memory Failures. Being much more common, than the Manufacturers Claim. Also, it looks like the Cheep Bargain SSD's, read and write allot slower, than the "better brands". So, I don't really trust Flash Memory yet. So, I have not ever used an SSD Drive in anything, so far. Check out Morton's, "What Drives can you use in your Server SAS/SATA/SSD - 501" Video, on his My PlayHouse Channel. He has done quite a few good videos on SSD's in Servers... Don
Hi Don, Thanks, i need this help. can you send COMeap Motherboard 10 Pin to Dual PCI-E Diagram? cant access to amazon but i can make that Cable. Thanks
Hi Shiri, sorry I don't know where to find a Diagram on the Cable. Or the Pin out for the Mother Board on the HP Proliant DL380 DL360 DL180 G6 & G7 Servers. You might have better luck, than me. If you do some searching on the HP Support Web Site... Check out the Video Description for the links. Also, you may be able to figure out how to build a Cable like it, in my previous video, here are links to the times in the video where I show close ups up the Cable... https://youtu.be/8eBv2j3L7jU?t=331 and https://youtu.be/8eBv2j3L7jU?t=3573 (Thanks for watching, Don)

Did you install a sound card on your server? Honestly that's going to be my next step, I notice the riser gives you 1x16 and 2x8 pci plugs

I looked around at prices on a PCIe Video Card. And they cost more than I wanted to spend. I already have 2 USB Sound Cards. I paid $2 each for them, several years ago. So, I'm using one of them for my Audio input for my Videos. Also, I had in the back of my mind. That I would like to have a larger monitor (have a 23inch 1080P). I looked around for a few months. And on Black Friday 2020. I found the 43inch 4K TV, that I'm using now as my Monitor. $158.00 when I bought it 11-27-20. It's a Sceptre 43" Class 4K UHD LED TV HDR U435CV-U from Walmart.com (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sceptre-43-Class-4K-UHD-LED-TV-HDR-U435CV-U/46867816) My Video Card has built in HDMI Audio out. Which I use to send Audio to the TV. And then I use the TV's Audio Line out. With a 3.5mm to two RCA Cable, to send audio into my Amps - Sound System. The TV and Sound Chip in the Video Card, both have... "Audio Return Channel, or ARC, uses a single HDMI connection to send audio from a TV to the SoundBar or AV Receiver. Using one HDMI cable, video is sent to the TV with an HDMI cable, and that same HDMI cable sends audio from the TV back down the same cable." I had never heard of this, before. So, I read up on it. I can see both the Audio Input & Output Chips in my Fedora 32 Linux Audio Settings. So, I tried hooking up an RCA Cable, to the Audio Inputs on the TV. Hoping, that I could send the Line Level Audio Signal back to the Computer. Going from my Behringer 802 Mixer & Vamp2 Efx back to the Computer. But, it didn't work. I guess, it has to come via the HDMI Cable, into the ARC HDMI Port. So, I may still buy a PCIe Audio Card. Maybe a multi-channel Recording Card. If I find one, for less than $80 or so. Oh, and the PCIe Slots on the G7, are labeled in a way that is hard to figure out. If you look on Pg 93 of the HP ProLiant DL380 G7 Server Maintenance and Service Guide. I think, you are only going to actually get x8 Speed, on the x16 Slot. Or actually, the x16 Slot, is the one on the Motherboard, that you plug the Riser Card into. See my video on this (https://youtu.be/e14gB4UYjyQ?t=1779). And I remember Morten, saying that, about his G6, on on of his videos. Oh, and the video you watched, where I was installing the Video Card. Has a section, on the Cable I used. Don
When you installed the gpu on that server, which cable did you use? I've heard about certain cables frying the board.

Yes, I saw the same problems, when I was searching for a Power Cable. After much research. I found this Page on the HP Support Site, that helped allot. HP ProLiant DL380 G7 Server (has every part & number & pics) - Spare Parts (https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-c02236664). I did some searches for the HP Part numbers, I was interested in on Google & Amazon. The HP Parts were expensive, though. So, I searched Google & found it on Amazon.com. I Searched for HP DL380 G7 GPU Power Cable 10 pin to 8 pin (https://www.amazon.com/s?k=HP+DL380+G7+GPU+Power+Cable+10+pin+to+8+pin&ref=nb_sb_noss). I bought this Cable & video Card, for my HP ProLiant DL380 G7 Server,

On installing a Tesla GPU in one of his Lenovo Servers. The Cables for that one, have a very different Pin Out. It's really something to watch out for, when buying Cables for Servers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKg8_ba-3-0&list=PL610210A1DC7524CE&index=1) Hope this helps... Don
@Don Bishop great details. Thank you man.
Is the second psu necessary for this setup? I mean I doubt it with the 750watt psu. What is the hot plug fan module for?
@An Individual My G7 came with 2-6 Core CPU's and 2-460Watt PSUs. But, when I bought the 8GB Video Card. It requires 150Watts. And that is the Max the 460Watt PSUs can put out. The HP support site. Does say. they can put out 150Watts continuously. But, I didn't want to constantly run them at Max. So, I decided to get the 750Watt PSU's. Also, if I understand it right. You can set the PSUs to share the load and be Redundant, at the same time. Or you can set them to just be Redundant. If you only have 1-PSU. Then you will only have, the Max output of that PSU, for the entire System & the Video Card. And you can only run 1-CPU. Also, with 1 CPU. The main thing I remember about that. Is that you can only use about half of the RAM Slots. Most Servers are like that. I bought the Fans, as backups. In case 1 or 2 fails. Also, I was thinking I might use 1 fan for my Vent in the Closet. It' its not too loud, powered by a Wall Wart... Don
@Don Bishop so a single 750watt will run the system with the gpu and both cpus, right? At least I was under that impression it'd have plenty of wiggle room
@Don Bishop will do. Happy I talked to you about cables that was where I would have likely gone wrong
Hi there ! Thanks for your video. Can I get a better result on my nobreak performance when a power failure occurs setting up those power settings at the bios ? Thanks again.

Hi Joao, I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. But, I don't remember seeing a setting in BIOS. That will tell the Server to Boot back up. Like you can do with Desktop Computers, in the event of a Power Loss. I may have missed it or they may depend on UPS Battery Backup Systems. With Servers and not need this setting. See my Playlist for more, Don Bishop HP ProLiant DL380 G7 Server, https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAG1YL-u0LzfaOS--vziycDDeKfHuBaDA Thanks, Don
Hi Don, thanks for your answer. My nobreak isn't working properly with my DL360 G6. Both power supplies are 460w and my nobreak have 1200VA/600W. Even if I use only one power supply, is doesn't work and the server comes down...
@João Maciel I've never heard or seen the phrase "nobreak". But, since you mention, 1200VA/600W. I think you are talking about a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). Right? Have you checked in iLO, to see what wattage your server is using? It does look like you would have enough power to run, with at least 1 Power Supply. Unless there is something wrong with your PSU or the the 600W is grossly over rated, by the manufacturer. A very common thing, these days. Here's quote from a good article I found on Choosing a UPS. "If your device has active power factor correction (PFC) or incorporates fragile or sensitive electronics, especially for audio recording, you likely need a pure sine wave. It’s not always easy to figure out if your device has active PFC; when in doubt, opt for a pure sine wave—the additional cost has come way down." ( https://www.techhive.com/article/3565753/best-uninterruptible-power-supply.html ) I had a Cyber Power Brand UPS, that I bought as Refurbished, about 18 years ago. After a year or two. It quit working and I bought a new battery it. But, it still didn't work. I still use it without the battery, as a Surge Protector. But, only half of the AC Plugs work. The ones with battery backup, have no power. I also have an older Big UPS, that I connected to two big 1000 Cranking AMP 12VDC Truck Batteries. I'm pretty sure it is not Pure Sign Wave. I used it in my Van to run a PC & CRT Monitor, back in about 2003. Just for fun, to experiment with them. I left it all hooked up, for a couple of years. And the CRT Monitor died. It just would not come on. I suspected, that it might have been, because the UPS was not Pure Sign Wave. But, then again. It could have been the heat, cold & humidity in the Van, over the years. The UPS is still in the Van with 8 of those batteries. Only two are connected to the UPS. I have had other CRT's that sat around in a Garage for years & still work. And I have a Radio Shack TRS-80 Portable made in 1983.That sat in a Basement, for several years. That still works perfectly today. I would actually trust, older electronics, over anything made since around 2000 to present. To still be working. Have you heard of the "Bad Cap Plague"? That's usually what caused new electronics to fail... Hope you get yours working well... Don

What OS are you running? What is your purpose for this Card? The "Being a dual-slot card, the NVIDIA Tesla M2090 draws power from 1x 6-pin + 1x 8-pin power connector, with power draw rated at 250 W maximum. This device has no display connectivity, as it is not designed to have monitors connected to it. Tesla M2090 is connected to the rest of the system using a PCI-Express 2.0 x16 interface. The card measures 248 mm in length, and features a dual-slot cooling solution. " (https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/tesla-m2090.c1537). I have no experience with this type of Video Card. I put an XFX Radeon RX 570 RS XXX Edition 1286MHz, 8gb GDDR5, DX12 VR Ready, Dual BIOS, 3xDP HDMI DVI, AMD Graphics Card (RX-570P8DFD6) Sold by: Amazon.com for $139.99 when it was Sale. I'm running Fedora 32 Linux. It runs great with the Open Source Linux Drivers, which were automatically installed with Fedora 32. @Don Bishop Hey Don
im running windows server 2012 r2 OS ,im using this card for CFD simulations, although im conecting it with the help of the hp riser which is a pci e *8 , and powering up both the pins using an external psu
@Kimi Räikkönen Ok, I was wondering if this server could even power that Tesal M2090. I looked in the Maintenance & Service Guide PDF. Cause I couldn't remember, the total wattage that the Mother Board could supply. It says, "The PCIe2 x16 riser supports a maximum power of 150 W with an HP power cable. This cable must be used for PCIe card wattages greater than 75 W." I bought two 750 Watt PSU's & a Power Cable, to power my Video Card. But, if you are going directly to an external PSU, then you should be good. My first thought for finding Windows Drivers. Is using the Free Software, Glary Utilities (https://www.glarysoft.com/glary-utilities/download/). It's the best Windows System Tools, I have found. You could try the HP Support Site, (https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/km/product/4091567/Product#t=DriversandSoftware&sort=relevancy&layout=table&numberOfResults=25) and (https://techlibrary.hpe.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/products/service_pack/spp/index.aspx?version=G7.1). But, I don't know if they do any support for the Tesla GPU's. Might be worth a try... Don
